Global VC Demo Day

7BC is currently organizing and hosting the Global VC Demo Day circuit of events, which is 11 in-person events per year with 16 VCs selected to deliver 15-minute demo day pitches to a room full of Limited Partners (LPs) at each event. It is free for the VC to pitch but if any LP wants to invest less than $1m they must invest via 7BC Capital's Fund of Fund (FoF) or Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV). If LPs invest $1m or more we do not take any kind of fee or economics. VCs selected to present agree to give an allocation to 7BC Capital's FoF to invest in their VC funds. We invest heavily to market the calendar of 11 in-person events to get real vetted LPs to come to the in-person events and engage with the selected presenting VCs, other VCs in attendance, and 7BC Capital's FoF.

Unlike other family office or GP-LP connect events we do not charge the General Partner (GP) a fee to pay to pitch or attend a so-called family office event. In our experience as VCs we have found most of the so called LPs at these other events are too big to be a fit to invest in an emerging manager or the family offices are fake and in reality seeking to charge the VC a cash retainer to broker LP investment into her fund as placement agents. Often the family office or GP-LP events mix real-estate, hedge funds, even startups all together and many LPs are just not relevant to a technology VC. Conference organizers do little to no vetting of the LPs.

We do not charge the GP to present and we do not seek to take GP economics like VC accelerators. This is disruptive. Other GP-LP events charge the GP for stage time. The only criteria of who gets to present at other events is which GP pays the most for the keynotes or pays smaller amounts to be on a panel, 8 guaranteed meetings with LPs that will not invest in an emerging manager with a small last fund size, etc. These event companies have a business model and profit motive of charging maximum sponsorships for stage time and selling tickets to delegates while serving the cheapest wine possible. This is bad for the LP and horrible for the GP.

At 7BC our motive is to find the best VCs for us to invest in via our FoF and SPVs and then source deal flow from the portfolios of the GPs we have invested in as LPs. We are also motivated to find VCs to co-invest with our direct investing 7BC Venture Capital fund and to invest in our portfolio companies' future growth stage funding rounds giving our portfolio companies an industry-high graduation rate of raising the next up-round.
